The SAFR Project

The current active shooter protocol is called: “run, hide, fight”.,

But there is no place to run, nowhere to hide, and successfully fighting a shooter is unlikely. Electronic tracking and alert systems are expensive but do not solve the real problem. of what to do when the shooter is inside the school.  We propose to create saferooms, by bonding light rifle-rated ballistic tiles to classroom doors. Nine tiles with a total weight of 27 pounds does the job.

Whole school protection would cost less than one SRO. It’s the least expensive-most effective solution on offer. The tiles do not need to cover the entire door as shots aimed above or below the tiles will hit the ceiling or the floor. More tiles can be added if needed. The window can be protected with polycarbonate. We can offer the tiles in several colors including wood grain to match the door.

Our simple “paddle” latch  stops the intruder from opening the door,

If the shooter cannot open the door, and he cannot shoot through it or see into the room he moves on. Training to clear the halls will be needed.
